Activities

Fri 26/8We’ll have a light lunch at Brisbane airport before hopping on the flight to Proserpine just after lunch. You’ll be transferred to our beautiful seaside accommodation just outside Airlie Beach. Settle into your rooms, unpack your gift art materials pack. Relax and enjoy the view. In the evening join us for a welcome cocktail party and meal on the beach.
Sat 27/8This morning after our continental breakfast at the resort, we hop on our shuttle and visit the local township of Airlie Beach. We explore the arts and crafts market that also includes food and fresh produce. Take photos of interesting colourful things at the market that we plan to paint in the afternoon, and sketch on location. Pick up anything you need from the local shops. We have lunch at a divine fresh seafood restaurant and then return to the resort for a painting session in the afternoon by the poolside, enjoying the glorious view. With any luck you may get to meet George the local Great Egret who sometimes hangs around at the pool. He’s a beautiful painting subject! In the evening we can enjoy our first cocktail and selfie overlooking the beach at the beautiful restaurant and bar that’s within walking distance from our rooms. Choose from a relaxed Mexican meal in the beach bar, or a full meal in the informal indoors restaurant.
Sun 28/8Today after a catered hot breakfast, we can stroll down to our artists’ hideaway painting studio right on the beach, and paint all day on the verandah overlooking the sandy beach. A catered lunch will be spread out at our artist hideaway to enjoy. We’ll get a group photo in the “Circle Gazebo” on the beach in front of our private art studio, then celebrate a great day of painting and sketching at the end of the day with dinner. Choose either at our local restaurant and bar, just a short walk (or buggy ride) across the nearby parklands, or a shuttle into town for a meal at a restaurant there. Get an early night as there’s an exciting day coming up tomorrow!
Mon 29/8Today after a hot breakfast we take an early morning trip to the boat harbour. We hop on board a comfortable luxury catamaran yacht to take a tour through the Whitsunday islands. This vessel has been selected as being one of the easiest to get in and out of, for those who are not so nimble as we used to be. We tour in luxury out to the outer islands and stop for a wonderful walk to the lookout at Hill Inlet for some amazing photos or on location sketching. Then we visit the amazing white sand of Whitehaven Beach, famous for the beach scene in Pirates of the Caribbean film. There is an opportunity to snorkel the reef here and see if you can spot some turtles to swim with. Bring your underwater camera so you have some amazing photos to paint from tomorrow! After a full day touring the islands it’s time to escape back to your rooms once again for a leisurely dinner at our local restaurant alongside the resort.
Tue 30/8This morning we get a chance to stop and rest – and create! After a sumptuous full breakfast by the poolside, join us for a painting session at our artist hideaway studio on the beach. It’s a great opportunity to bring out those photos you’ve taken and get some guidance from your artist tutor on how to approach and complete beautiful drawings and watercolour and mixed media paintings of the subjects you’ve gathered in your travels so far. We enjoy a catered lunch on the pool deck, and then a fun guided painting afternoon to finish off some more artworks to take home and show off. Near the pool deck is one of the original boats owned by General Macarthur – why not enjoy a cocktail on board the deck of his actual boat! Dinner is at our favourite local bar and restaurant.
Wed 31/8Enjoy a free morning where you can sleep in, or go for a walk in the surrounding nature after breakfast. We shuttle into town for an explore of the new lagoon area, and sit at a local café and paint while we enjoy a lovely lunch and the view. After lunch we paint on location in town and then enjoy a mad dinner at a fusion restaurant that has decorations that have to be seen to be believed. Play and sketch in our Spot the Feature passport game while enjoying a great meal and a cocktail.
Thu 01/9It’s our last opportunity to have a full day of painting with your tutor. After a hot breakfast, we paint on the pool deck and walk or buggy to lunch at the local restaurant. We grab a final group photo of everyone in their retreat aprons in the afternoon and enjoy another tutored painting session. Then we shuttle into the harbour again, and climb aboard the spacious catamaran for a delightful sunset cruise around the harbour, enjoying canapes and a drink on board. Sit and sketch on board if you’re not too busy taking photos of the sunset to paint from! After the tour, we walk across to a lovely restaurant and bar that has views over the harbour, and enjoy a final farewell dinner there.
Fri 02/9After breakfast, farewell your comfortable room and pack your bags to leave at reception, keeping your flight bag and a small art bag to play with today. We paint on the deck and take any last minute memory photos until lunch time then transfer to the airport for the mid afternoon flight back to Brisbane.
